House style sheet

Your department conventions written down. What you call learners, how objectives are phrased, words you never use, tone by document type, and the standing rules to paste into anything that touches real data.

Everything in it is something you already know and have never had to say out loud, because your colleagues absorbed it. A tool has not. It also has a box for the corrections your reviewers make every single time, which is the most useful and most often skipped part.

Who it is for

  • Teams where more than one person writes the same kinds of document
  • Anyone whose drafts come back from review with the same four corrections every time
  • New starters who need the unwritten rules written down

What is inside

  • What we call things: participants or learners, activity or session, date format
  • How objectives are phrased, with room for three approved examples
  • Words you never use, words you always use, and words that mean something specific to your accreditor
  • Tone by document type: accreditation, participant-facing, marketing, faculty
  • Four standing rules written out ready to paste, plus room for your own
  • A box for the corrections your reviewers make every single time

How to use it

  1. Fill in the easy rows first. Names, date format and banned words take about five minutes between them.
  2. Paste in three approved examples. Objectives that got through review without comment. Examples teach far better than rules.
  3. Ask a colleague for the corrections box. Whoever reviews your work can list their standing corrections faster than you can guess them.
  4. Attach it wherever you draft. It only pays off if the tool can see it without you pasting it each time.
